MANA de Orange County, a Latina advocacy and leadership organization, will hold its seventh annual Community Tamalada on Saturday, Dec. 17 in Santa Ana.
It takes place at St. Anne’s Catholic Church Campbell Hall, 1344 S. Main St., Santa Ana.
Cost is $20 per person, which includes a Christmas Mercado, orange juice and Mexican pasties, tamale-making lessons and a dozen tamales to take home, ready to cook. Bring an apron and a hair tie. Participants must be in good health and at least 12 years of age.
Proceeds will benefit MANA’s community work. The organization sponsors the monthly Empowering Lecture Series for parents and will be sponsoring the 24th Annual Adelante Girls Education and Leadership Conference, to be held at Santa Ana College on May 19, 2012.
The tamalada and Christmas Mercado, with vendors providing a variety of handmade items, is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
