Learn about Mexican dress from arts expert Genevieve Barrios Southgate

Genevieve Barrios Southgate will present a program on traditional Mexican dress

Genevieve Barrios Southgate, assistant director of education at Bowers Museum, will present a program on the history and traditions of Mexican dress, celebrating the artistry of the women weavers and fine needle artisans of Mexico.

Her collection of Mexican dress features pieces from Oaxaca, a state with many indigenous villages and traditions. Members of MANA de Orange County, a Latina leadership group, will present a fashion show.

People who attend will be able to create Mexican folk arts, such as tin ornaments, Huichol God’s eye weavings and Dia de Los Muertos plaster art.

You’re invited to bring a Mexican dish to share.

The event takes place at the from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at the Bowers Kidseum, 2018 N. Main Street, Santa Ana.

Cost is $5 for members, $10 for non-members. RSVP with nellie@manadeoc.org.
